Lesson Policies

We believe that learning to play a musical instrument is one of the most enriching experiences you can have. To maximize the enjoyment of the lessons for you and your instructor, these policies have been put in place:

Scheduling

All lesson scheduling is done through the staff at the store Front Counter, either in-person or via telephone. Changes cannot be made directly with your teacher. Changes by e-mail are NOT accepted.

Lesson Rates

For current rates, see our Lessons home page. No taxes. No registration fee.

Full hours lessons can be arranged for intermediate and advanced students.

Payment

Lessons are booked by the month. Payment must be made at or before the first lesson of each month in advance for the entire month. You may pay by cash, debit, or credit card. For your convenience, we can keep your credit card on file and automatically process your monthly payment.

Receipts for the Children’s Arts Tax Credit are issued upon request.

Student Cancellations

When you sign up for lessons, you are reserving the teacher’s time. Please understand that our policies are in place to assure our staff is compensated fairly.

We require 48 HOURS NOTICE to cancel for ANY reason. Your prepaid fee will be deducted from the following month’s bill. Failure to notify us within 48 hours is a late cancellation, and you are expected to pay for the lesson.

Two cancellations are permitted from September to June. (Exceptions will be made for religious holidays and planned vacations.*) Further cancellations will require a make-up lesson to be scheduled at a time convenient to both teacher and student. If a make-up lesson is not possible, you are expected to pay for the lesson.

There are no lessons New Year’s (Jan 1), Family Day (Feb), Good Friday and Easter Sunday (Apr), Victoria Day (May), Canada Day (July 1), Simcoe Day (Aug), Labour Day (Sep), Thanksgiving (Oct), Christmas (Dec 24-26).

*If you observe religious holidays resulting in a missed lesson, please inform us at the time of booking at the beginning of the teaching year.

Stopping Lessons

If you decide to terminate lessons, we require one week’s notice. Your prepaid fee will be kept on file until you return, or, a full refund will be given for lessons not taken.

Teacher Absences

If your teacher is unable to attend a lesson, one of our qualified instructors will substitute. If a substitute teacher is not available, your prepaid fee will be deducted from the following month's bill.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Commit to your weekly lessons. Attendance is crucial to successfully learn to play an instrument.

  • Bring your own instrument to the lessons (with the exception of piano and drum students). Our studios are equipped with metronomes, amplifiers, and music stands.

  • Bring your method book and dictation book.

  • Arrive at lessons on time. Students who arrive late do not receive the benefits of a full lesson.

  • Do NOT eat, drink, or chew gum in the lesson waiting room or studios.

  • Practice!

  • Enjoy making music. Keep a positive attitude and work hard. Have fun with your lessons.

  • Share your talents with your family and friends.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

The parent’s attitude and involvement are vital to a child’s success
in music.

  • It is important that your child practices without interruption and attend lessons on a regular basis. Good habits encourage success, and well-placed praise helps them continue.

  • Children learn valuable lessons in perseverance, self-discipline, and time management. If your child encounters difficulties learning or practicing, please let your instructor know. Communication is important, and the instructors are committed to helping their students and parents.

  •   Encourage your child to participate in music classes, choir, band, or orchestra at school. These are  wonderful opportunities for them to sharpen their musical skills and learn teamwork.

  • Expand you child’s interest in music by attending musical events with your family and listening to the radio and recordings at home.

Encourage your child to perform often and to make music with others.
