About the Book
The book is divided into two sections. The first section
consists of 30 riffs using a "clavinet" sound providing
a very rhythmic approach to playing, similar to how a
rhythm guitar would play. This style of playing is used
by popular keyboardists Billy Preston, Ramsey Lewis,
Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Max Middleton (Jeff Beck
Group) Earth Wind & Fire, to name a few.
The second half of the book consists of 30 riffs
using a "Hammond organ" sound. Champions of
these funky/soul/blues/jazz styles include Stevie
Winwood, Jimmy McGriff, Joey DeFrancesco, Jimmy Smith,
Richard Tee, and Charles Earland.
About the CD
Included with this book is a CD of the 60 riffs. It is
recorded with the left-hand keyboard part on the left
channel and the right-hand keyboard part on the right
channel as well as a separate bass and drum part. This
enables you to isolate each of the left- and right-hand
parts by using the left and right balance control on
your stereo system. You can practice the left-hand part
while the CD plays the right-hand part and vice versa.
There is also a second version of each of the 60 riffs
with only the bass and drums recorded so that playing
along with the CD is like having a mini-private lesson
with a back-up band as accompaniment each time you sit
down to practice.
An optional MIDI file disk is available for all
computer formats as well as General MIDI keyboards and
sequencers with disk drives.
